US midterms: Millions of Americans to vote today
Americans will be heading to the polls to vote in the 2022 midterm elections on Tuesday, with the balance of power in Congress at stake.
The entire US House of Representatives, around a third of the Senate and key state governorships, are up for grabs.
Final rallies were held yesterday by Democrat President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump – a Republican.
The Democrats hold both chambers of Congress – but if they lose the House it will mean the president’s ability to pass laws will be harder.
The Democrats control both the House of Representatives and the Senate by a thin margin.
Whilst we’re still two years away from a presidential election, midterms are often seen as a referendum on a president’s leadership.
It can be used as a good indicator of who might run in the next presidential election.
