A man died while reportedly trying to rescue his dog after it was ‘spooked by fireworks’.
The 33-year-old got into difficulty in the water off the coast of Aberdeen, Scotland on Tuesday night.
According to the Scottish Sun, the man had rushed to the beachfront after his pet dog was startled by the sound of fireworks.
Police, coastguard, and RNLI crews had all rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised.
The man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he was pronounced dead.
According to the reports, his dog is also thought to have died in the late-night tragedy.
An eyewitness told the Scottish Sun the dog may have ‘bolted’ following a large noise.
They told the newspaper: ‘There was a very loud bang and a firework went off in the same area just minutes before the emergency services started arriving on scene.’
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ‘At 7.15pm on Tuesday, November 1, police were called to a report of concern for a man at Beach Esplanade, Aberdeen.
‘The 33-year-old man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
‘There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.’
