Anne Hathaway doesn’t see herself doing a sequel to Devil Wears Prada – but she has another idea (Picture: GC Images)
Anne Hathaway has some thoughts on The Devil Wears Prada – namely that she’d like to see a totally new cast of actors take on the famous characters.
The Princess Diaries actress, 39, became a massive name in the early noughties by appearing in some of the best-loved tween films and rom coms of the decade.
And while Hollywood is on a roll with reboots and sequels – everything from the Halloween franchise to IT – the star has an idea of what could happen with the 2006 smash-hit The Devil Wears Prada.
The original film saw Anne play young journalist Andy, who reluctantly takes a job at a fashion magazine only to be terrorised by her boss, played by the incredible Meryl Streep.
Meryl earned an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of the no-nonsense magazine editor, with other cast members including the brilliant Stanley Tucci and A Quiet Place star Emily Blunt.
Now however, Anne has admitted she’d like to see the film remade with an entirely new cast, rather than a sequel with the old actors back together.

Speaking on ABC talk show The View, she said: ‘I don’t know if there
can be [a sequel].
‘I just think that movie was in a different era. Now everything’s gone so digital and that movie is centred around the concept of producing a physical thing and it’s just, it’s just very different.’
She added however: ‘It is tempting to think about Andy and Emily needing to get Miranda her coffee and she’s somewhere in Europe.

‘And then along the way they pick up Stanley Tucci in Italy, who’s at a restaurant.’
‘It’s tempting,’ she admitted, ‘but I don’t think it’s going to happen.’
She went on: ‘They could relaunch it! Get some new people and do it.’
Last year the star revealed she was the ninth choice to play the lead role in the acclaimed film, saying it was proof that you should ‘never give up.’
Speaking to the contestants of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’, she teased: ‘I will give you some tea: I was the ninth choice for Devil Wears Prada.

‘Rachel McAdams reportedly turned down the role, while Claire Danes and Juliette Lewis were also considered.
And in September, Anne – whether knowingly or not – gave a brilliant throwback to her Devil Wears Prada days as she sat beside Vogue editor Anna Wintour at a New York Fashion Week event.

The role of Meryl’s character Miranda famously said to have been based on Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief, Anna, though no one has ever confirmed those suspicions.
Anne’s outfit looked very familiar, as she wore a long brown leather coat over a black turtle neck jumper, her hair in a high ponytail – an almost identical look to her character in the film.
