A man has been jailed after pouring bleach over his girlfriend’s half-naked body.

Liam Gordge, 22, flew into a rage after blaming his partner for letting his dog wet his friend’s bed whilst they were staying there in August last year.

He suddenly grabbed the bleach and poured it over the 22-year-old’s head and body while she was wearing only underwear.

The victim was left with serious burning to her eyes, foaming in her mouth and inflamed skin, but he told doctors it was an ‘accident’.

Gordge attacked her three more times over the next three months, alongside throwing her coat in the toilet and urinating on it when she tried to leave him.

He also threw a bottle of moisturiser at the victim which hit a two-year-old child she was carrying in her arms.

During this time the victim said she felt like a ‘prisoner’ and even stopped visiting her family as she was ‘ashamed’ of the bruises on her face.

She described feeling isolated from her friends and family as Gordge stopped her from having a normal social life, and she felt like she was living ‘within four walls’.

Gordge, who lived at the victim’s house, refused to leave when she tried to kick him out and even once locked her in.

He also tried to stop her from calling the police by snatching her phone out of her hands as she was calling for help.

The couple were in a relationship for nine months before the attack and the violence continued until she successfully ended the relationship three months later in November.

Gordge, of Taunton, was jailed for one year and nine months at Exeter Crown Court.

He had pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm, criminal damage and four counts of battery, including one against the child.

Gordge was also banned from making any contact with the victim or visiting the area she lives.

Judge David Evans said: ‘It has been said that this was not as serious as an acid attack but it caused burning and irritation to her skin, eyes, and mouth and it is fortunate the harm was not greater.

‘Your violence was then repeated and there was a tone of degradation about some of the incidents. It amounted to a campaign of violence against her.’
