Liz Truss vows to match Ukraine military support
PM Liz Truss has vowed to match UK spending on military support to Ukraine next year, as politics returns following the Queen’s death.
The PM will pledge military aid worth billions during a trip to meet world leaders in New York this week.
The trip comes at a time of global economic turmoil driven by soaring energy prices and the Ukraine war.
The UK has committed £2.3bn in military aid to Ukraine since Russia invaded the country.
It’ll be a busy political week ahead as the PM travels to the US for her first foreign trip as prime minister.
Truss will be attending a series of meetings with world leaders, including Joe Biden, and France’s President Macron.
When asked about the prospect of a future trade deal with the US, the PM said negotiations were not taking place currently and she did not expect any “in the short to medium term.”
