Ben Stiller and Sean Penn banned from Russia after Ukraine comments
Actors Ben Stiller and Sean Penn have been banned from entering Russia following their comments of support for Ukraine following the Russian invasion.
Russia released a list on Monday of 25 new names that will be barred from the country in response to the “ever-expanding personal sanctions by the … Biden Administration against Russian citizens.” Stiller and Penn along with political figures such as senators Mark Kelly and Rick Scott make the list.
Ben Stiller is an ambassador for UNHCR, he visited Ukraine in June and posted on social media in solidarity with refugees of the conflict. He also met with the Ukrainian president telling him: “You’re my hero.”
Penn has also been a vocal supporter of Ukraine and Zelensky and made a series of TV appearances in April to call for US solidarity with Ukraine. He added that he considered joining the fight against Russia.
The new names join a much longer list – of over a thousand names of US citizens have been sanctioned by Russia. The names mostly consist of political and military figures and a handful of celebrities.
