Pato O’Ward Dismisses Cadillac F1 Rumours with a Wink

IndyCar star Pato O’Ward has playfully dismissed speculation linking him to a switch to Formula 1 with Cadillac, comparing the chatter to the light-hearted gossip surrounding Fernando Alonso and pop sensation Taylor Swift. The remarks come amid rising interest as Cadillac eyes potential drivers for their anticipated entry into F1 in 2026.

    The Speculation Surrounding O’Ward

Pato O’Ward, currently with Arrow Mclaren, has been linked to various F1 opportunities, particularly with Cadillac’s new team. As Cadillac navigates its entry into Formula 1, the pressure to fill two available driver seats has intensified. However, O’Ward insists that these links are overstated.

“The rumours about me going to Cadillac were like the rumours about Fernando Alonso hanging out with Taylor Swift,” O’Ward stated to ESPN MX. He clearly enjoys the lighthearted nature of the speculation, explaining that just because names are thrown into the mix doesn’t mean there’s any substance behind them.

    Cadillac’s Aspirations for F1

Cadillac has been vocal about its ambitions to join the F1 grid, with team boss Graeme Lowdon recently mentioning several potential candidates, including notable names like Mick Schumacher, Valtteri Bottas, and Sergio Pérez. These comments add layers to the already frenzied speculation about future driver line-ups.

O’Ward’s Position in IndyCar and His Views on Pérez

As he continues to excel in IndyCar—currently sitting second in the championship standings behind fellow competitor Álex Palou—O’Ward remains focused on his current commitments. The 24-year-old Mexican driver also expressed thoughts on his compatriot, Sergio Pérez, who faced a challenging situation after being replaced at Red Bull.

“I think his departure from Formula 1 wasn’t what he wanted,” O’Ward remarked. “If he chooses not to return, he’ll still be an idol. If he chooses to return, he’ll still be an idol. I already saw him training, and he wouldn’t be training if he wasn’t coming back.”

What Lies Ahead for O’Ward and Cadillac

As speculation swirls around both O’Ward and Cadillac’s F1 plans, only time will tell how the landscape of motorsport will shift. For now, O’Ward remains committed to his role in IndyCar, meticulously working towards his goal of securing the championship while keeping a watchful eye on developments across the pond.

With the motorsport world eagerly waiting, O’Ward’s future, whether with Cadillac or another team, promises to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
