68% of England under tier 3 coronavirus rules for Christmas
68% of England will be living under England’s toughest coronavirus restrictions this Christmas – equivalent to 38 million.
Around 30% of the population will be in tier two, while 2% will be in tier one, with the least strict level of curbs.
Here’s a recap of the new tier 3 areas starting from 00:01 Saturday 19 December:
- Bedfordshire
- Buckinghamshire
- Berkshire
- Peterborough
- The whole of Hertfordshire
- Surrey, except Waverley
- Hastings and Rother
- Portsmouth, Gosport and Havant
At the same time, Bristol and North Somerset are to leave tier 3 for tier two on Saturday and will be under tier 2 rules.
And Herefordshire will join and live under tier 1 rules.
Millions will continue to live under tier three curbs after the government resisted calls to loosen restrictions in the north of England.
