Cyclone Bulbul: Over 2 million people evacuated as deadly cyclone slams into Bangladesh and India
CNN reports millions of people have been displaced after Cyclone Bulbul smashed into India and Bangladesh over the weekend. The storm hit Bangladesh on Saturday and led to severe flooding there and in neighbouring India. At least 10 people have been killed. 
Bangladesh’s minister for disaster management said a total of 2.16 million people have been evacuated from their homes. And whilst the weather has since settled, many are still waiting to return home.
The minister confirmed most of the 10 victims died as a result of the falling debris. The storm caused damage to around 30,000 houses, Rahman said, adding most of the homes were “simple huts made of bamboo and other materials.”
“They are not strong structures so (were) vulnerable to damage,” he said.

‘Terrible mistake?’ Polish PM slams Netflix over documentary implying Poland shared responsibility for Nazi crimes
RT News says Netflix is “urgently” reviewing complaints made by the Polish Prime Minister claiming the new Holocaust documentary is “rewriting history” by implying Poland shared responsibility for death camp murders on its soil. 
The PM is pressuring the US streaming site to modify the documentary – ‘The devil next door’ – which shows the Nazi death camps on a map of Poland but drawn inside the country’s modern borders.
The documentary follows the life of Ukrainian-born US citizen John Demjanjuk. A Nazi death camp guard who was convicted by a German court in 2011 as an accessory to the murder of 27,000 Jews at the Sobibor camp in Poland. He was known as ‘Ivan the Terrible’.

Israeli forces kill top Islamic Jihad commander in Gaza attack
Aljazeera says Israel killed a top commander for Iranian-backed Palestinian armed group Islamic Jihad in a rare planned attack in the Gaza strip on Tuesday. He was accused of carrying out a series of cross-border attacks and planning more. 
The killing of Baha Abu Al-Atta in his home was a risky move, according to Al Jazeera’s Harry Fawcett.
“This is an extremely dangerous escalation,” Fawcett said. “Israel has not targeted leaders in this way for some time so this strike is seen here as one which brings significant risks.”
The blast killed at least one other person, a woman, as it ripped through the building. Two others were wounded.

Cobra to meet over northern England floods
BBC News reports the PM is to chair a meeting of the Cobra emergency committee later in response to floods in northern England. Prior to the government’s announcement, Jeremy Corbyn had called on Boris Johnson to convene Cobra. 
Jeremy Corbyn wrote to Mr Johnson, saying: “If this had happened in Surrey, not Yorkshire or the East Midlands, it seems far more likely that a national emergency would have been declared.”
39 flood warnings are in place including five severe warnings on the River Don in South Yorkshire. And so far around 400 homes have been flooded and 1,200 properties have been evacuated.

Lib Dem candidate quits over racist and homophobic tweets
The Guardian reports a Liberal Democrat candidate has stood down after a series of racist and homophobic tweets emerged on Monday. 
Kevin McNamara apologised for the comments and will no longer contest the marginal Thurrock seat for the party.
“I am deeply sorry for the comments that I made that are currently being reported in the press. These words are deeply offensive and I apologise profusely to everybody that I have offended with these tweets,” he said.
The Lib Dems had launched an investigation earlier in the day after a series of images emerged purporting to show tweets posted by Mr McNamara that included racial and homophobic slurs.

The UK has dodged a technical recession, but growth is still at its lowest in nine years
iNews says the UK has narrowly avoided falling into a recession, but annual growth fell to its weakest level since 2010. 
Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a measure of the country’s economic output, increased by just 0.3 per cent between July and September. The number fell below economist and market estimations of 0.4 per cent but was enough to prevent the UK from entering a recession.
In the three months to June, the economy shrank by 0.2 per cent, because of a drop in manufacturing output following the delay to the Brexit deadline. If another period of decline had followed, the UK would have fallen into recession.
“The underlying momentum in the UK economy shows some signs of slowing,” the ONS said.
