MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER 21-YEAR-OLD WOMAN DIES IN HUDDERSFIELD STREET
The Independent reports a man has been charged with the murder of a 21-year-old. Paul Crowther, 35, is accused of Killing Bethany Fields after she was found with serious injuries in Huddersfield town centre on Thursday evening. Crowther will appear at Kirklees Magistrates Court later this week charged with murder and possession of a bladed article. The parents of Bethany Fields said the student was “beautiful, talented, ambitious, intelligent, kind.” Adding: “ A daughter, who any parent would have been proud of, much loved and respected by all; family, friends, work colleagues and fellow students.”

BREXIT: UK WILL REJECT ANY DELAY OFFER, PM TO TELL JUNCKER
BBC News says the UK will not postpone Brexit beyond the current 31 October deadline. Johnson is set to tell the European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker at talks today. According to a Downing Street source, Boris will stress he wants to secure a deal by 18 October. But if it’s not possible he will “reject any delay offered” and leave with no-deal. The source said Mr Johnson “would make clear that he would not countenance any more delays.” Adding: “Any further extension would be a huge mistake. It is not just a question of the extra dither and delay – it is also the additional long months of rancour and division, and all at huge expense.”

ONLY HALF OF UK UNIVERSITIES READY FOR NO-DEAL BREXIT
The Guardian says four out of five universities are worried about the impact of a no-deal Brexit. According to a survey by members of Universities UK, it found that 80% of those responding said they were either “very” or “extremely” concerned about a no-deal Brexit. But more than half of universities said they were fully or very prepared for a no-deal Brexit. Vice-Chancellors, speaking to the Guardian, said they were most concerned about shortages of essential chemicals and gases for laboratories. And others were looking to stockpile bulk items such as food and toilet paper. “If we run out of loo roll then we have to close and send everyone home, it’s as simple as that,” said one vice-chancellor, who added that such a scenario was unlikely.
