A “NEW CHAPTER” FOR US & PAKISTAN RELATIONS
Most global media outlets are reporting meeting between Imran Khan and Donald Trump.
The US and Pakistan have opened the doors to a “new chapter” a day after Trump welcomed Pakistani Premier Imran Khan to the white house. The meeting between Trump and Khan was an attempt to mend relations and seek help in ending the 18-year-old war in neighbouring Afghanistan.
On Monday, Trump discussed improving trade with Pakistan, possibly restoring the $1.3 billion in aid that last year he cut off and said he believes Khan will help negotiate peace in Afghanistan, allowing US troops to return home.
Trump’s comments are wildly different from last year when Trump said Pakistanis “have given us nothing but lies & deceit” and had “given safe haven” to militants.

VENEZUELA: NATIONWIDE BLACKOUT BLAMED ON ‘ELECTROMAGNETIC ATTACK’
CNN reports, The Venezuelan government have blamed the nationwide blackout on an ‘electromagnetic attack.’ This blackout has affected most of the country including the Capital, it is the fourth blackout the country has had this year. 
The exact cause of the blackout was unclear, but as with previous blackouts, officials pointed the finger at hostile attackers. Officials did not give further details about the ‘electromagnetic attack’ but said they were working to restore power as quickly as possible, as well as addressing the drinking water access, transport systems and the needs of health centres.
Work and schools remain suspended and citizens are advised to stay in their homes if possible.

A US RIVER HITS RECORD TEMPERATURES
The Potomac River has hit a record temperature of 94 degrees Fahrenheit over the weekend, following a major heatwave. The river runs through the US capital Washington. 
Over the weekend the US endured dangerously hot weather that is said to have been as hot as bathwater. New York, Philadelphia and Washington all saw temperatures rise into triple digits. The heatwave has been blamed for the deaths of six people by US media. A hiker was found unconscious in Washington on Saturday and two people died earlier in the week in the state of Maryland.
