Stranger Things Season 4 – the return to Hawkins!
Stranger Things is heading back to our screens! Here’s what you need to know
Release date
Stranger Things was renewed for a fourth series in September 2019. The new series started filming in early 2020 – though paused due to Covid-19 – and started filming again in September 2020.
The filming schedule has three main locations – Lithuania, Atlanta and New Mexico. Season 4 was expected to hit screens in early 2021 but is now expected to drop sometime in 2022.
The cast
The main cast will all return for season 4. It includes Millie Bobby Brown, Winona Ryder, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer, Gaten Matarazzo, Sadie Sink, Charlie Heaton, and Cara Buono.
David Harbour will also be back, returning to his much-loved role as Hopper after trailers revealed he was still alive.
Maya Hawke will return as Robin and Brett Gelman and Priah Ferguson will become series regulars.
The supporting cast will include Paul Reiser, Joe Chrest, Gabrielle Pizzolo, and Matthew Cardarople.
Tom Wlaschiha has been cast in the new season. He appears to play a Russian guard where Hopper is located.
It looks likely a few new characters will be added too.

Sneak peek of season 4! Netflix dropped the trailer which (to fans delight) revealed Hopper was still alive and working in some sort of Russian work camp/ prison.

What’s going down in Hawkins in season 4?
Nothing is yet confirmed for season 4 – but the Duffer brothers told THR:
“We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway — and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper,” brothers Matt and Ross Duffer revealed in a message written to fans “from Russia with love.”
“It’s not all good news for our ‘American,’” they continue. “He is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human … and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything …
“Season four is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime — pray for the American.”
Season 4 looks set to attempt to connect everything – we might find out more about the Demogorgon, Hopper, Eleven’s powers and who and how the Upside Down opened.
Season 4 is likely to be set during basketball season (thanks to an image from the set), meaning the season is set one month after the events of season 3.
