Climate change: 40C summers will be normal in the UK, Met Office says
The Met Office has said the record-breaking heat the UK experienced in 2022 will be regarded as a cool year by the end of this century.
A report from the Met Office shows that last year was “extraordinary” with a heatwave pushing the UK over 40C for the first-ever time.
By 2060, the temperatures reached in 2022 will be the average, if carbon emissions are as expected, the report say.
By 2100 it would be a cooler-than-average year across the UK.
The UK is facing major effects from climate change with it playing a key role in last year’s record-breaking temperatures.
