16,000 coronavirus cases missed in daily figures after IT error
BBC News says nearly 16,000 cases of coronavirus were not entered into the national computer system used for official figures because of a technical glitch, PHE has said.
Some of the unreported cases were then added to Saturday’s figure of 12,872 new cases and Sunday’s 22,961 figure.
PHE said all those who tested positive had been informed in the normal way.

India records more than 74,000 cases
The Guardian says India’s coronavirus case tally rose by 74,442 in the last 24 hours to 6.63 million on Monday morning, data from the health ministry showed.
Deaths from coronavirus infections rose by 903 to 102,685, the ministry said.
India’s death toll from the coronavirus rose past 100,000 on Saturday, only the third country in the world to reach that bleak milestone, after the United States and Brazil, and its epidemic shows no sign of abating.

Paris will be put on maximum alert, but restaurants will stay open
Euronews says Paris will be upgraded to maximum alert level as the French capital and a number of other cities see a surge in cases of Covid-19.
The French government confirmed on Sunday night that the alert level will be raised in the capital but that restaurants will not be forced to close, as they recently had to in Marseille.

Gaming booms among the Covid gloom
Arab News says the coronavirus pandemic has changed consumer habits worldwide, resulting in new trends. Gaming is one such trend that has increased by leaps and bounds, according to a new report by global intelligence platform and consulting service GfK.
This has resulted in increased purchases of devices such as gaming consoles, gaming monitors and gaming PCs as people explore socially distant ways to keep themselves occupied and entertained.

US states see record rise in Covid-19 cases as cold weather arrives
Aljazeera says at least nine US states have reported record increases in Covid-19 cases during the last seven days, mostly in the upper Midwest and West where colder weather is forcing people indoors.
Health experts have long warned that colder temperatures driving people inside could promote the spread of the virus. Daytime highs in the upper Midwest are now in the 10s Celsius.

Trump’s photo-op raises more questions
CNN says In the midst of an aggressive course of treatment for coronavirus, President Trump left the hospital with his security detail Sunday so he could ride in an SUV past supporters cheering him on outside Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
The short trip, where Trump waved to his supporters through the window while wearing a mask in the back of his SUV, was an attempted show of strength that displayed the President’s questionable judgment, his willingness to endanger his staff and the fact that he still does not seem to comprehend the seriousness of a highly contagious and deadly disease.
