15,000 new health workers promised by end of March in bid to fight NHS backlog
The Metro says the health secretary has pledged to recruit 15,000 new health workers as part of his plan to tackle the NHS waiting list in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Predictions suggest the backlog in England will not start to fall for at least another two years and could even double in size.
With this in mind Sajid Javid wrote in the Daily Telegraph the NHS aimed ‘to recruit 10,000 more nurses from overseas and 5,000 more healthcare support workers by the end of March’ to increase capacity.
Yesterday the health secretary set out new targets for reducing long waits and getting people checked for illnesses more quickly.
