We’re all busy, all the time, so when you’ve got news to share, wouldn’t it be easier to just do it once?
That’s the aim of a new WhatsApp feature currently being tested in beta for Android, which will allow users to share their status updates directly to Instagram.
The news is a boost for those who already take advantage of the app’s ability to share status updates with Facebook – oh, the memories – on both iOS and Android.
Now, WABetaInfo is reporting this will be extended to include Instagram, presumably adding the WhatsApp status, which can be a photo, video or gif update, to Instagram Stories.
The update is currently being tested for the 2.23.25.20 Android update.
As with all status updates and Facebook sharing, users will be in control over who can see their content.
A WhatsApp status can be shared with all contacts, all contacts except selected individuals, or only selected individuals.
In addition, when sharing status updates users have the option whether or not to share it with Facebook – in the same way Instagram posts can be shared on Facebook with permission.

And soon it looks as though two-way street will be extended between WhatsApp and Instagram, making life easier for those who want consistent comms across all social media – well, Meta-owned social media anyway.
The move is a popular one with the writers of WABetaInfo, a website dedicated to news about the messaging platform.
Revealing the update-in-progress, they wrote: ‘We believe that integrating a feature to allow users to share status updates to Instagram can offer several advantages, with time-saving being a prominent one.
‘In fact, allowing users to share their WhatsApp status updates directly to Instagram enhances the process of updating their status across multiple platforms. Instead of having to create and post separate updates on WhatsApp and Instagram, users will be able to execute the action in a single step.’
