MJF has already turned on William Regal (Picture: AEW)
New AEW World Champion MJF viciously attacked William Regal on Dynamite this week and left him being stretchered out of the arena.
The 25-year-old star won the title from former champ Jon Moxley at Full Gear last month with the help of WWE legend Regal, who turned on his Blackpool Combat Club associate in shocking scenes.
This week, Maxwell Jacob Friedman waxed lyrical about his new ally before admonishing him for making a deal with the devil, already ending their surprise alliance.
He laid Regal out with the veteran’s own signature brass knuckles in a brutal assault, which resulted in the former King of the Ring being stretchered out and taken away in an ambulance.
The storyline twist left the audience stunned just a couple of weeks after MJF and Regal sparked plenty of talk over them being on the same side.
They have plenty of real life history from the Gentleman Villain’s time working for WWE NXT scouting talent, particularly after he didn’t sign MJF and after some time stopped responding to his emails with advice.
Now, it’s unclear who Regal’s allies are, with Bryan Danielson by his side, but BCC member Mox surely still reeling from the betrayal at Full Gear, while there’s also the matter of Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta.
For MJF, it appears he’s back to going alone as a solo act, while fans are still waiting to see what decision he makes when his AEW contract expires in January 2024.
He has repeatedly referenced the ‘bidding war’ that is almost certain to take place, as it’s not a stretch to imagine WWE would be interested in trying to sign him away from their rivals in what would be a major coup.
Back in October, WWE superstar Liv Morgan – who met MJF for the first time weeks earlier at a mutual friend’s birthday party – backed the wrestler to do what’s best for him.
She exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘When 2024 comes, I think only he can know or decide what is best. I think whatever he wants to do is gonna be the best decision for him. Wherever he goes, I’m just he’ll be a star.’
AEW Dynamite airs Wednesday nights at 1am on Fite TV.
