INDONESIA PROTESTS: POLICE FIRE TEAR GAS, WATER CANNONS AS STUDENTS PROTEST LAW THAT WOULD CRIMINALISE EXTRAMARITAL SEX
CNN says thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of Indonesia to oppose a controversial draft criminal code 
that would make consensual sex outside of marriage illegal and a new law that could weaken anti-corruption efforts. Students, on the second consecutive day of mass demonstrations in the capital, demanded the government withdraw the draft code outside the parliament building. Pictures from the rally show large crowds of mostly young protesters setting bonfires on the street. According to state media, an estimated 18, 000 police were dispatched to the Parliament Building. Police later fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowds.

NETANYAHU NOMINATED TO FORM ISRAEL’S GOVERNMENT AFTER DEADLOCKED ELECTION
RT News says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will get another chance to form Israel’s next government. It 
comes after both his and rival Benny Gantz’s parties both failed to secure a majority last week. Final results from the election gave the rightwing Likud 32 seats compared to Benny’s more moderate Blue and White’s 33 in the 120-seat Parliament. Israel’s longest-serving PM now faces the challenge of assembling a majority of at least 61 seats in parliament. But with a corruption indictment hanging over his head – failure to unite a majority could spell more trouble for him than just losing power.

LAST AUSTRALIAN STATE DECRIMINALISES ABORTION
France 24 says abortion has been decriminalised in Australia’s state of New South Wales. After weeks of debate, the 
state’s laws have now come into line with the rest of the country. Politicians voted to overturn the laws that date back to 1900 and meant women seeking an abortion in Sydney or elsewhere in the state and their doctors could face up to 10 years in prison. The legislation was delayed for months by a small group of conservatives from the ruling Liberal Party who rebelled against their leader.
