Who’s the favourite to win the Women’s World Cup 2023?
This summer will see millions descend on Australia and New Zealand to support their teams who will battle it out for football glory.
Since the last Women’s World Cup, women’s football has seen a lot of financial investment – helping the game to grow across the UK and Europe. It means this world cup will likely be the most competitive and the biggest one to date.
The Lionesses have had a run of recent successes – including winning the European Championship, the Women’s Finalissma and The Arnold Cup.
England are second favourites to win the World Cup – just behind the US, who are seeking their third consecutive World Cup win.

England can win World Cup
The European Champions are second-favourites to lift the World Cup. Despite their recent success, their last two games before the World Cup saw them lose 2-0 to Australia and draw in a lack-lustre game against Portugal.
The last two performances have caused worry amongst England fans as to how far the Lionesses will go in the tournament.
The team are heading into the World Cup without key players such as captain Leah Williamson and Beth Mead – both suffered injuries ahead of the world cup.
But are there real reasons for fans to worry?
No. Sarina Wiegman’s team has plenty of depth in its squad. Players such as Ella Toone and Alessia Russo, who had a massive impact on the games off the bench will likely get a starting chance in the world cup. Then there’s the Barcelona duo Lucy Bronze and Keira Walsh.
England are odds-on favourites to top their group and could come up against the US – who have won the Women’s World Cup four times.
But the US has had a poor run in recent months, their last game – a friendly against Wales, saw the Welsh manage to hold them off for much of the match. However the US has depth in its bench as well, and a late substitution saw the US beat Wales 2-0.
But it made it clear if Wales can hold the world number one for much of the game, the gap in women’s football is closing. It’s no longer a guarantee the US will win the biggest competition and teams no longer seem to fear facing a US squad.
Europe is closing in fast and this world cup might just see a European club bring the trophy back to the continent.
