There’s two sleeps to Christmas, which means we’ve reached day 23 of December’s strike action.
People from across Britain’s major industries – such as rail workers, nurses and bus drivers – have all downed tools this month in protest over pay and working conditions.
People were warned not to get injured or ill during the ambulance workers’ strike earlier this week.
Today, four different unions are staging industrial action.
There could be delays on the road for those looking to travel home for Christmas, as National Highways workers stage further strike action.
This pocket of walk-outs affects London and the south east, and the protest runs until Christmas Day.
Public and Commercial Services (PCS) Union general secretary Mark Serwotka said: ‘We’re aware our action is likely to inconvenience travellers but, even as we escalate it ahead of Christmas, we remind people this dispute could be resolved today if the Government puts more money on the table.’
Those responsible for programming electronic signs that provide information about speed limits and lane closures – who work closely with emergency services to monitor the roads – are among the striking staff.

Meanwhile, Christmas post has been severely disrupted as Royal Mail strikes go ahead until tomorrow.
The union representing postal workers said that senior leadership at Royal Mail Group ‘have rejected an offer of negotiations to resolve the ongoing dispute’.
CWU General Secretary Dave Ward said: ‘Our message to the public and businesses is that postal workers do not want to be here, but they are facing an aggressive, reckless and out-of-control CEO committed to wrecking their livelihoods.’
Royal Mail previously warned that the last post dates for mail to arrive before Christmas were around a week earlier this year due to strike action.

At airports, more than 1,000 Border Force staff belonging to the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) are taking part in strike action over eight days of the festive period.
Army personnel and government staff will be drafted in to check passports at arrivals halls during further walkouts between December 23 and New Year’s Eve.
Six airports across the country are affected.
Also on the strike advent calendar for December 23 are driving examiners.
Some driving tests might be affected – with people urged to check the Government’s website for more information.
The strike action is part of national industrial action by the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union over pay, pensions, jobs and redundancy terms.
Further strike action is planned until the end of the month, such as further walk-outs by rail workers who are striking over pay and working conditions.
