Nail bars and tattoo parlours reopen as England’s lockdown eases

BBC News says beauty salons, spas, tattoo parlours and nail bars are welcoming back their first clients for almost four months, as lockdown restrictions ease further in England.

Some beauty treatments such as eyebrow threading, face waxing, eyelash treatments and facials will be banned because they carry a greater risk of transmission, leaving some businesses unable to reopen.

In Scotland, indoor shopping centres are allowed to reopen, and in Wales, pubs, bars and restaurants can serve customers outdoors.

German officials furious after meatpacker behind Covid-19 outbreak that placed 600,000 people on lockdown requests salary refund

RT News says a German meat processing factory at the centre of a local coronavirus outbreak that put two neighbouring districts on quarantine has requested government support. The move has angered German officials, including the agriculture minister.

South Africa again bans alcohol as coronavirus surges

Aljazeera says South Africa will immediately re-enforce a ban on the sale and distribution of alcohol to reduce the volume of trauma patients so hospitals have more beds open to treat Covid-19 patients, President Cyril Ramaphosa said.

Confronted by surging hospitalisations because of the coronavirus outbreak, South Africa also reinstated a nighttime curfew to reduce traffic accidents and made it mandatory for all residents to wear face-masks when in public.
