Damage hero Mei was taken out of Overwatch 2’s rotation after a bug in her abilities made her indestructible.
The launch of Overwatch 2 has been quite rocky so far, as server issues, bugs, glitches, and even DDoS attacks have negatively affected the game’s first few weeks.
Not long ago, two of its damage heroes, Torbjörn and Bastion, had to be disabled because of bugs in their ability kits, which caused them to have too much power.
Now the same has happened to another damage hero, Mei, as a bug affecting her Ice Wall ability has caused those playing her to get an unfair advantage over their opponents.
Mei’s abilities are themed around ice and frost, with her gear allowing her to generate an enormous ice wall that obstructs lines of sight, stops movement, and blocks attacks.
This ability was quite powerful as it was, but due to a bug it was allowing other heroes to teleport inside the maps’ walls and ceilings and get the high ground against their enemies.
For example, by combining Mei’s Ice Wall with Kiriko’s Swift Step a player was able to teleport inside the wall of a building in Paraíso and eliminate multiple enemies while nesting there.
Kiriko didn’t seem to suffer any damage either, which makes the combo all the more broken.
After getting wind of the exploit, developers have decided to disable Mei to address the issue ‘as quickly as possible’ until the game’s next patch update, which is set to go live on Tuesday, November 15.
The same post also points out that exploiting in-game bugs to gain an unfair advantage is considered cheating, according to Blizzard’s In-Game Code of Conduct.
So, if anyone’s been using this deadly combo, they’ll likely be penalised, as Blizzard continues its anti-cheat efforts, after a huge ban wave that hit South Korea’s servers, a few days ago.

The bug in Mei’s Ice Wall ability isn’t nearly as bad as the one that saw Bastion players being able to continuously fire his ultimate, Artillery.
By exploiting this bug, players were able to fire countless artillery shells, one after the other, when normally you’d only be able to fire three.
Luckily, both Bastion and Torbjörn have since returned to the game and are back to normal, which is probably what will happen to Mei, when she’s all fixed up.
While Mei is missing, you’ve still got some time to unlock the Halloween-themed Twitch drops by just watching streams under the Overwatch 2 category.
A special, final spooky event, titled Junkenstein’s Revenge: Wrath of the Bride, will also continue through Wednesday, November 9, giving you the chance to unlock limited-time cosmetics by completing its challenges.
