James Marsden has expressed his devastation over Westworld’s cancellation after four seasons.
The drama, based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 sci-fi flick, first hit television screens in 2016 and became an instant hit with fans, plunging us all into the terrifying world of Artificial Intelligence.
However, just months after the series finale aired in November, HBO bosses confirmed that the award-winning sci-fi -starring Evan Rachel Wood, Thandiwe Newton, Tessa Thompson, and Aaron Paul – was officially axed.
‘I’d be lying to you if I told you that the way we ended Westworld wasn’t a disappointment,’ Marsden said, addressing the show’s brutal end.
‘I’m never going to speak without gratitude about any of my experiences, but it would have been nice to be able to complete the story we wanted to finish.’

Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy had mapped out five series of the sci-fi drama, however, their plans were scrapped when HBO axed the show.
To make matters worse, the streamer also removed the programme altogether.
While Marsden understands the nature of the biz, he’s still devastated by the move.
‘I love this Westworld family,’ he continued to Rolling Stone. ‘It was one of those unique opportunities to be part of something where I also would be sitting at home ravenously waiting for the next episode as a fan.
‘Totally understand it’s an expensive show and big shows have to have big audiences to merit the expense, I just wish it was about more than financial success.’
Despite West World’s cancelation, he is remaining hopeful that it could be picked up elsewhere.
‘Maybe there’s some world where it can get completed somehow,’ he added.
‘Maybe that’s just wishful thinking because I know we had plans to finish it the way we wanted to.’

Bosses confirmed the news of Westworld’s end in a statement, which read: ‘Over the past four seasons, Lisa and Jonah have taken viewers on a mind-bending odyssey, raising the bar at every step.
‘We are tremendously grateful to them, along with their immensely talented cast, producers and crew, and all of our partners at Kilter Films, Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television.
‘It’s been a thrill to join them on this journey.’
