A new poll has found voters want Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to do more to support his main priorities.
Voters want PM to do more to stop small boats, and other priorities title
Voters said they thought Sunak was doing a “bad job” in delivering his hot topics as he prepares to address the Conservative Party conference tomorrow. At the start of the year, the PM said he had five main priority areas.
These were halving inflation, growing the economy, cutting government debt, shortening NHS waiting lists and “stopping the boats”. In a poll of 1,000 British adults, Ipsos UK found widespread dissatisfaction with the Prime Minister’s performance on all five priorities.
Dissatisfaction had also grown across the five policy areas since the pollster last asked about them in May. On halving inflation, 57% said they thought Mr Sunak was doing a bad job, compared to 55% who said the same in May. Only 14% said they thought he was doing a good job, down from 17%.
HS2 second leg to be scrapped to Manchester
HS2 trains will reach Manchester but will no longer run on high-speed tracks north of Birmingham, Rishi Sunak is expected to confirm on Wednesday.
According to multiple reports tonight (Tuesday), the link between London and Birmingham will be completed but from Birmingham to Manchester trains will run on existing West Coast Mainline tracks.
This means that the new high-speed track will end at Birmingham, confirming the fears of many business leaders and politicians in the two cities.
The PM and other Conservative ministers batted away questions about HS2 throughout their conference in Manchester.
The first indications that the leg to Manchester could be scrapped came after The Independent reported that ministers were considering shelving the northern phase because of concerns about soaring costs and delays.
