The Independent says Rishi Sunak claimed he held a mandate for power as he stepped into 10 Downing Street to form his new government on Tuesday – but most voters want their say in a general election, exclusive polling shows. 

The number of signatures on The Independent’s petition for an election now passed 430,000.
