An American assistant professor experienced a traveler’s nightmare when he entered his Airbnb in London and found it was just a bathroom with a bed inside.
David Holtz, who teaches at the University of California, Berkeley, shared a photo of the accommodation showing a bed right next to the toilet, with the shower and sink across from it.
‘That feeling when you arrive at your Airbnb and realise that the whole space is essentially just a large-ish bathroom that the host put a bed into,’ tweeted David Holtz.
Holtz first sensed that something might be off with the Airbnb when he saw that the listing had zero reviews, according to Jam Press.
He complained to Airbnb, which said it would investigate the matter.
‘Hi, David. Thank you for reaching out to us,’ wrote Airbnb in reply to his original tweet. ‘Please send us a DM with the email address connected to your Airbnb account, so we can take a closer look.’

Holtz then responded: ‘I already spoke to customer support multiple times and every customer support advocate i’ve interacted with has had no interest in helping resolve the issue. can i expect a different outcome this time?’
The assistant professor said that Airbnb has yet to reach out to him with a resolution.
Airbnb told the New York Post: ‘Our customer service team has been in contact with this guest to provide support. We encourage guests to review all photos, as well as the description and reviews, prior to booking a stay.’

Some Twitter users drew comparisons to New York City’s notorious small and sub-par accommodations despite high prices.
In late 2021, a TikTok user shared photos of her Airbnb in the Big Apple that appeared to have a window looking directly into a restaurant.
‘I pull back the shades, and there are no buildings,’ she said. ‘We are in a restaurant.’
