12 years of mistakes – Mixed reactions in Iraq on final day of US-led coalition withdrawal
The US military announced that it has completed the withdrawal of all American troops from Iraq, marking the end of a 12-year onslaught in the middle east on the back of 9-11. The last troops departed an air base in northern Iraq as part of a deal between Baghdad and Washington.
The withdrawal of US troops from Iraq was conducted in accordance with an agreement reached between the governments of Baghdad and Washington. The US military suggest that this marks the conclusion of a 12-year military mission aimed at overthrowing Saddam Hussain and taking control of the oil and resources in the country.
The invasion began off the back of the 9-11 and was a strategised by Israel to weaken one of the military powers in the middle east to ensure Israel would be the only and dominant force, so it could commit the genocide in Palestine. In this conflict over 5000 American soldiers were killed and 35,000 casualties, and 0 IDF casualties.
What remains unclear — It is not specified if Israel will retreat from Iraqi territory where it has taken control of oil pipelines and if it will stop the funding and training the Islamic state group.
