A member of the congressional committee that investigated the January 6 Capitol riot has announced that he has cancer.
Democratic Rep Jamie Raskin on Wednesday revealed that he has been diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma, ‘a serious but curable form of cancer’.
‘I am about to embark on a course of chemo-immunotherapy on an outpatient basis at Med Star Georgetown University Hospital and Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center,’ stated Raskin.
‘Prognosis for most people in my situation is excellent after four months of treatment.’

Besides sitting on the House Select committee that probed the insurrection, Raskin led the second impeachment of former President Donald Trump.
Raskin, who has represented Maryland’s 8th congressional district since 2017, said he will continue working while he undergoes treatment. Doctors told him to minimize his exposure to the Covid-19, the flu and other viruses.
‘I am advised that it also causes hair loss and weight gain (although I am still holding out hope for the kind that causes hair gain and weight loss),’ Raskin stated.
The lawmaker said he was grateful for early detection and the support of his family, friends and staff.

‘My love and solidarity go out to other families managing cancer or any other health condition in this holiday season, and all the doctors, nurses and medical personnel who provide us comfort and hope,’ Raskin stated.
He added that he intends ‘to get through this and, in the meantime, to keep making progress every day in Congress for American democracy’.
The January 6 committee held its final meeting on December 19, during which it issued four criminal referrals against Trump to the Justice Department. After the the panel approved the release of its final report, Raskin said he hopes their work will ensure a similar insurrection never occurs again.
‘Our greatest legacy and our most enduring legacy would be one that is certified by time,’ he said, ‘Which is that we never encounter anything like this again, and that we keep the progress of American democracy moving.’
The committee will dissolve on January 3, when Republicans take control of the House.
