US Election 2024: Swing state North Carolina
Polls have tightened in North Carolina since Kamala Harris took her spot as the Democratic presidential nominee, with some analysts now labelling the state a “toss-up.”
This shift may explain why Trump chose the Tar Heel State for his first outdoor rally after the July attempt on his life. “This state is a very, very big state to win,” he told supporters at the event.
Democrats, meanwhile, showcased North Carolina’s Governor Roy Cooper during the final night of their party’s convention, highlighting the state’s importance.
Will North Carolina flip to Democrats this election?
North Carolina, which borders Georgia, shares many key electoral issues with states like Arizona, another pivotal Sun Belt battleground. Although Trump won North Carolina in 2020, it was by a narrow margin of just over 70,000 votes, fueling Democratic optimism that this historically “purple” state could be in play again this election year.
