Sunday’s papers report heavily on the government announced that people in the UK who house Ukrainian refugees will be paid £350 per month in a new scheme from the government. Members of the public will be able to fill out an “expression of interest” form from tomorrow.

The Sunday Telegraph – £350 to host refugees in your home as Britain opens its doors 

The Sunday Telegraph’s front-page reports on the new scheme, calling the announcement “unprecedented”. The paper says people will be allowed to sponsor named Ukrainian individuals or families to stay in their homes – a radical departure from the government’s earlier approach to the refugee crisis.

The Sunday Times – Putin wipes an entire city 

The Sunday Times reports on the claims from a local governor, that an entire city was wiped out in eastern Ukraine as a result of Russia’s attack. The paper reports Volnovakha said that “heavy bombardments from the air and ground artillery assaults have demolished much of the small but strategically import city of 21,000 people – similar in size to Truro in Cornwall.”

Britons who open their homes to Ukrainians fleeing the war will receive £350 a month under a new “cash for accommodation” scheme – and The Observer says Michael Gove is calling for a “national effort” on behalf of refugees in desperate need.
