Geoffrey Cox pockets £6m for 10,000 hours’ outside work – as Tories refuse to defend him
The Sun says Top Tories have refused to defend two-jobs Geoffrey Cox as new analysis showed he has worked more than 10,000 hours outside Parliament.
Tallies by the Guardian and the Daily Mail suggest the barrister made between £5.5m and £6m from his private jobs since 2009.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak admitted the government “need to do better” after a failed bid to rip up the standards process for MPs last week.
The revelations added fuel to criticism of Boris Johnson for presiding over the botched move – which sparked a wave of sleaze rows.
