Call for extra bank holiday to be made permanent
BBC News says Business leaders have urged the prime minister to make this year’s extra bank holiday marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee permanent.
In an open letter, the CBI, UK Hospitality and a host of well-known brands said a “thank holiday” would honour the monarch and public service.
They argued that the new holiday would provide an economic boost after Covid.
Research by PwC also suggests that government figures have overestimated the cost of a new bank holiday by 64%.
This year’s extra day off is set to take place on 3 June.
