Millions of elderly and vulnerable households at risk as BT set to axe landline phones

The Daily Express says MILLIONS of vulnerable pensioners may find themselves effectively isolated as a result of BT plans to replace their traditional handsets with digital ones, campaigners have warned.

As part of BT’s digital changeover, scheduled for 2025, the traditional landline telephone will be scrapped in favour of digital handsets powered by electricity. The move will mean households will need internet access in order to make calls. However, Jan Shortt, general secretary of the National Pensioners Convention, highlighted a key flaw in the proposals.
