Afghanistan: Fears that refugees may cross to Britain are premature, says UN
The i says it is too early to tell if the Afghanistan crisis will lead to more asylum seekers trying to reach UK shores, the UN’s refugee agency has said.
The Home Office has revealed that a record 828 people made the dangerous journey across the English Channel in small boats on Saturday, the highest figure for a single day in the current migration crisis.
Despite repeated vows by the Home Office to make the route “unviable”, 30 boats succeeded in reaching the UK on Saturday, the department confirmed.
