UK inflation unexpectedly falls to 9.9% but remains close to 40-year high

Inflation rose by 9.9 per cent in the 12 months to August 2022, down from 10.1 per cent in July, but remaining close to a 40-year high.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed that the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) had fallen below 10 per cent last month as fuel prices began to tumble.
It comes as the UK faces a cost of living crisis, with fuel, food and energy prices soaring for months and July’s hike to 10.1 per cent pushing inflation to its highest since 1982.
