BREAKING – UK heatwave: Temperatures hits 40.2C
The UK has a new temperature record as Heathrow Airport recorded temperatures of 40.2C.
Earlier today, 39.1C was recorded in Charlwood, Surrey – breaking the 38.7C set in 2019 at Cambridge Botanic Garden.
Temperatures as high as 41C are forecast for today and it could get even hotter – much of England is still under the first ever red weather warning.
Another record was recorded last night, as Kenley in Surrey hit 25.8C, while Kew Gardens and Heathrow surpassed the previous temperature record by noon on Tuesday, recording temperatures of 38.8C.
The record temperatures have already caused travel disruptions, with flights being suspended and trains being cancelled.
On Wednesday – temperatures are expected to start dropping.
