Two people have been arrested 25 years after a baby boy was found dead in Cheshire.
The infant, who has never been identified, was found strangled and wrapped in plastic in a wooded area in Warrington on March 14, 1998.
Despite an extensive murder investigation police have never been able to identify him or his parents – and the baby was named Callum after the suburb, Callands, where his body was found, not far from Gulliver’s World Theme Park.
Earlier this year Cheshire Police issued a renewed appeal for information about the baby’s death – and they’ve now confirmed two people were arrested in July.
A spokesman for the force said: ‘Detectives investigating the death of a baby in Warrington in 1998 have arrested two people in relation to the incident.
‘Baby “Callum” was discovered in woodland in the Callands area of the town in March 1998.
‘A murder investigation was subsequently launched by detectives from Cheshire Police.
‘On July 28, detectives arrested a man and a woman from Liverpool in connection with the incident.

‘Both individuals have since been released on conditional bail.’
Thousands of people were interviewed amid the original police investigation. A woman described as ‘upset and emotional’ called the police hotline and claimed to be Callum’s mum, but she was never traced.
A distressed girl in a beige coat spotted in the area at the time was also never found.
Following the recent arrests, DI Hannah Friend, of Cheshire Police’s major crime review team, said: ‘I understand that this is an extremely emotional case which has attracted a lot of attention over the past 25 years.
‘However, I would ask people not to speculate. Enquiries remain ongoing, and we will not be releasing further information at this time.’
