Life tends to catch streamers off-guard sometimes, with Twitch streamer Seum and her family getting evicted while she was playing Dreamlight Valley.
Seum, or simply Sam, has managed to hit over 80 thousand followers on her Twitch channel, where she usually streams games like Dreamlight Valley or makes use of the Just Chatting category.
A lot of unexpected things can happen while streaming, such as a watermelon exploding or a group of friends getting caught up in the middle of gunshots. One streamer was even caught going to town with her boyfriend while broadcasting live.
As streamers don’t have any control of what could happen while streaming, some have been caught in tricky situations, such as the police raiding their house or, as in Seum’s case, getting evicted.
While she was playing Dreamlight Valley, Seum abruptly cut off her stream as she said she needed to go, without giving a reason why.
A lot of her followers noticed that she looked distraught and started worrying about her wellbeing and asking her if she was alright. Not long after, Seum posted an explanation on Twitter, revealing that she and her family had been evicted from their home.
Though various tweets, Seum said she feels ‘embarassed and lost’ and that her family has ‘nowhere to go,’ before asking her followers for help.
She posted a link to a GoFundMe campaign, in which she explained that since her husband lost his job in 2020 she had become the sole provider of her family. However, her income from Twitch has been up and down and ‘not very fruitful,’ which is something many streamers have complained about after the company rejected the 70/30 sub split.
Seum also explained that they’ve been getting help from Rental Assistance to pay back the rent they owed for 2021, but they ran out of funding and left her family ‘without options.’
The streamer got an eviction notice, that none of her family members saw, which ultimately lead to the sheriffs showing up to their doorstep and evicting them.
Since then, Seum has managed to get almost $40,000 (⁓£36,000) in donations to pay her rent but said that the leasing office couldn’t let her move back in even if she paid back the debt.

In the midst of all this, she also had to attend TwitchCon as her trip had been paid for and she had to fulfil contracts to work at the event.
After meeting fans and fellow creators at the event, Seum said she was overwhelmed by the love and support and went on to thank everyone that’s helped her.
‘Thank you for enveloping me in love and empathy and not letting me feel bad for being sad during this con,’ she wrote on Twitter.
Hopefully, Seum and her family will manage to move into a new home and go back to their normal lives.
