A young Valorant streamer has been banned from Twitch for being underage, even though his parents were there the whole time.
Twitch has a long list of guidelines for who can stream what on the platform, with many of its content creators often getting banned for not following the rules.
The platform also recently announced it’s working towards ensuring children are protected from predatory users, actively deleting accounts of children under 13 years old – which is the minimum age to use Twitch.
Still, there are many children who manage to slip through the cracks and create accounts, whether it is to stream or simply claim rewards for their favourite games.
Lucas, an 11-year-old streamer from Brazil falls under the first category, and despite having his parents supervise him for the whole duration of his streams, Twitch proceeded to suspend his account.
The platform doesn’t have any special rules that allow children under 13 to stream, even if their parents don’t mind.
‘If you are under 13 years of age, then please do not use or access the Twitch services at any time or in any manner,’ state’s Twitch’s guidelines.
Lucas was playing Valorant, which has an age rating of 16 for violence and because of in-game purchases. That’s according to the pan-European PEGI system, although many other countries have their own.
Media personality Jake Lucky was the first to tweet about Lucas’ story, who revealed that while the parents claimed ignorance of the rules they’d actually already been banned before.
As is usually the case, though, it doesn’t seem as if Twitch properly explained why and so it was only another four months before they received their second ban.
I had the pleasure of speaking with his family, who admit ignorance in not knowing Twitch’s rules, as they were previously banned and unbanned without much detail, and had streamed with parental supervision for 4 months before being banned again.

Most Twitch users agreed with the ban, highlighting that though it’s good to see his parents taking an interest in his hobby, they also might not fully understand what the streaming entails.
man.. this is a tough one, because the parents are taking an active interest in what their kid is doing, and i really like that. but at the same time, i worry that they may not completely understand what goes on, on twitch..

Others weren’t as opposed to a young kid streaming, but they prompted Twitch to make an adult content-free version of its platform, similar to YouTube.
Wait so the parents are supervising then it def should be fine. 13 is very arbitrary, and they should have a kids version of twitch anyway. They know kids watch, might as well make an adult content free version like YouTube that focuses on young audiences.

As Lucas has managed to reach Radiant in Valorant, which is the game’s highest rank, there’s no doubt he is very talented, though for now he’ll have to keep his talents away from the public eye.
