The Turkish disaster control agency says 52 people were killed in the province of Kastamonu, nine in Sinop and one in Bartin.
Turkey has sent ships to help evacuated people and vehicles from Black Sea town hit severely by flooding, as the death toll from the disaster increased to at least 62 on Sunday, with many more still missing.
On Wednesday, torrential rains pounded the country’s northwestern Black Sea provinces, causing flooding that destroyed homes, severd bridges , swept cars away, and turned several highways impassable.
The Turkish disaster agency AFAD said 52 people were killed in the province of Kastamonu, nine in Sinop and one in Bartin.
According to a statement by the governor’s office in Bartin, 13 bridges were destroyed in the flood, while at least 45 buildings were heavily damaged.
Suleyman Soylu, Turkey’s interior minister, said 77 people were remained missing as a result of the water. Eight people remained in the hospital.
“We supplied 20 tonnes of food by helicopter alone yesterday and today,” Soylu said on Sunday, adding that officials were attempting to meet the needs of victims, including burials and damage assessments.
Environment and Urbanization Minister Murat Kurum said there were at least 454 severely damaged and ruined buildings in the three provinces, adding that authorities were working on building new structures within the next year.
More than 8,000 workers are conducting relief work in the affected areas, the disaster management agency said, while at least 2,370 people were evacuated to safe areas by helicopters and boats.
Throughout the region, emergency teams continued to search for the missing among the numerous partially collapsed structures.
Drone footage from the Reuters news agency revealed severe damage in the Kastamonu province town of Bozkurt. Buildings that had been damaged were being searched by emergency services.
