Matt Doherty says he and his Tottenham teammates will be there to support Harry Kane when he returns to training following England’s 2022 World Cup exit.
Kane was hoping to captain England to World Cup glory in Qatar but it was not to be with the Three Lions already home after losing to France in last Saturday’s quarter-final.
The Spurs striker uncharacteristically missed a crucial penalty late on, having scored from the spot earlier in the match, as the reigning champions won 2-1.
Had Kane scored and England gone onto win, they would have faced Morocco in Wednesday night’s semi-final and possibly even Argentina in Sunday’s final.
Instead, the players are returning to their clubs to prepare for the Premier League’s return on Boxing Day, with Kane and fellow Tottenham and England star Eric Dier set to travel to London rivals Brentford.
Kane appeared understandably inconsolable after the defeat to France, later saying that he took full responsibility for the loss, and some have wondered how and if the 29-year-old can mentally recover from this.
On that note, defender Doherty says Spurs’ players will do whatever it takes to ensure that their talisman is back to his best for his club as soon as possible.

‘Harry obviously scored the first penalty, and then everyone knows what happened. That’s tough on him,’ the 30-year-old told Tottenhamhotspur.com.
‘These things happen. Pretty much everyone who knows ‘H’ would have put their house on him scoring, everyone knows he’s the best man for the job.
‘It will be tough for him now but when he gets back in, we’ll rally around him and get him up and running again.
‘He’ll be fine. He’s one of the strongest characters, mentally, that we all know.’
Yet again Kane has been in excellent form for his club, with 12 goals in 15 league games so far this season, as Antonio Conte’s side look to keep their title hopes alive, with Spurs fourth in the table, eight points off leaders Arsenal.
Meanwhile there are still two Tottenham representatives in Qatar, namely Argentina centre-back Cristian Romero and France goalkeeper and skipper Hugo Lloris.
