A quarter of the season has gone and Tottenham still sit proudly at the top of the Premier League, two points clear of the chasing pack.
Even the most blinkered Spurs fan will surely accept Ange Postecoglou’s squad face a mountainous challenge to stay in pole position but, nevertheless, they are now no better than 10/1 with Betway to be crowned champions after maintaining their unbeaten start with a comfortable 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace under Selhurst Park’s Friday night lights.
Whether or not Tottenham are realistic title contenders is likely to be determined in their next six games, starting with Monday’s London derby against Chelsea – a match given additional spice with Mauricio Pochettino’s first appearance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since leaving the club four years ago.
They then travel to Molineux to tackle a Wolves side playing decent football and proving to be worthy opponents under Gary O’Neil’s command before entertaining surprise package Aston Villa, who are fifth in the table just four points behind the leaders.
After that comes the ultimate test against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium before two more difficult challenges at home to West Ham and Newcastle.
Tottenham will probably need to take 13 or 14 points from those six games to remain in the reckoning.

Think they can do it? Back them now then because their odds will be slashed quicker than a Halloween pumpkin if they are still in the title race when the Christmas decorations go up.
Arsenal and Liverpool are both 5/1 across the board to end Manchester City’s title dominance while the widespread 66/1 for Newcastle to win the title reflects their current legginess as they try to juggle the demands of their European adventures with their domestic duties.
Villa are flying at home and abroad and but face the same problem as the Magpies which is one of the reasons why they are 80/1 with Sky Bet to finish the season on top of the heap.
It’s currently one of the most exciting Premier Leagues for some time with the title race uncharacteristically muddier than the relegation scrap but, when it boils down to it, Manchester City are still the most likely champions and the 8/11 on offer with Betway should be gobbled up.
• Middlesbrough, Mansfield, Wigan and Morecambe form Tuesday’s football yankee.
• To be honest, it’s not big or clever tipping a 4/7 shot but after Australia’s impressive win against New Zealand and England’s latest abject failure against India the Baggy Greens look certainties to win Saturday’s Cricket World Cup encounter at Ahmedabad. Lump on.
