Tory group of MPs aim to force changes to Rwanda Bill
A team of Conservative MPs, led by former immigration minister Robert Jenrick, aims to bring amendments to the government’s main Rwanda Bill.
The group, consisting of approximately 40 MPs, say that these changes will “strengthen” the law and help curb people smuggling into the UK via small boats. According to Jenrick, the current draft of the Bill is insufficient.
Backing Jenrick’s stance are former prime minister Liz Truss, former home secretary Suella Braverman, former party leader Iain Duncan Smith, and former cabinet minister Jacob Rees-Mogg.
At least nine former Cabinet ministers are expected to support four proposed amendments, which are likely to be presented next week.
