Top Gear is said to be facing even more doubt as to when a return will be on the cards after Freddie Flintoff was involved in a horrific crash.
In December last year, it was reported that the former cricket star was ‘lucky to be alive’ after an accident that occurred when he was filming the BBC series at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey.
A statement released at the time said: ‘Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning – with crew medics attending the scene immediately,’ a spokesperson said at the time.
‘He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course.’
In January this year, it emerged that filming for Top Gear had been paused indefinitely while an investigation was conducted into the 45-year-old’s crash.
‘No date has yet been set for the broadcast of series 34 of Top Gear. Filming has been paused as we await the conclusion of the investigation into Freddie’s accident. When the investigation has concluded, a decision will then be taken on when to restart production,’ a spokesperson told Metro.co.uk.

It’s now been claimed that the BBC recently emailed Top Gear contributors stressing that they hoped to film new episodes fo the show this month.
The message added, according to The Sun: ‘However, we have now pushed filming back. We don’t have a date in mind at the moment.’
A source told the publication that Freddie’s health is of course ‘the priority’, but ‘everyone thought he’d be back on form by now’.
They continued: ‘The show’s already been delayed once so for plans to slip again is a major headache in terms of scheduling and keeping contributors happy.
‘The fear is that those who had signed up to work will not be able to make the new dates.’
The BBC declined to comment when contacted by Metro.co.uk as the investigation into the accident is ongoing.
The most recent time Freddie posted on Instagram was in early December, with many of his fans commenting on his post to wish him well on his recovery.
‘Just read you’ve been in an accident filming Top Gear. Hope you’re doing ok and are on the mend,’ one person commented, while another said: ‘Hope you are doing well. Wishing you a speedy recovery.’
Top Gear is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
