Tommy Fury revealed he ‘has been doing very well in sparring’ (Picture: Getty)
Tommy Fury has responded to rumours he broke a sparring partner’s jaw ahead of Sunday’s fight against Jake Paul in Saudi Arabia.
Fury, the brother of heavyweight world champion Tyson, and YouTube boxer Paul faced the media on Thursday ahead of their highly anticipated showdown.
Fury rose to fame as a contestant on UK TV show Love Island but is perhaps now better known for his boxing career and wants to establish himself as a top fighter.
Victory over Paul would help Fury do that, and his father John recently claimed that Tommy handed one of his sparring partners a ‘hairline fracture in the jaw’.
‘There have been a few visits to the hospital for the sparring partners but that’s boxing,’ John Fury told the Daily Mail. ‘He’s been doing them some damage.
‘We’ve had a hairline fracture in the jaw and we’ve had a few knockdowns. We’ve had a few cold knockouts from Tommy.
‘He’s been destroying his sparring partners. You can ask them. He knows who they are. They know whether Tommy is the real deal or not.’
Tommy Fury, when quizzed about those rumours in an interview with Behind The Gloves, could not hide his massive grin as he said: ‘I’ve never been the one to speak about sparing matches and stuff like that!
‘I’ve been doing very well in sparring, put it that way.’
Fury was also asked about the ‘all or nothing’ bet he made with Paul over the fight purse ahead of their bout and if he had been prepped about it happening.
‘No, not at all,’ he added. ‘You’re never prepped when it comes to Jake Paul. The guy is a joke, the guy is a gimmick.
‘Jake Paul does not beat Tommy Fury. He knows in his own mind he cannot beat me.
‘I don’t think he even dreams about beating me. I would be very surprised if that paperwork comes.’
Speaking more generally about the fight, Fury said: ‘We’re a few days out now. I’m fit, ready to go.
‘This guy is in trouble. I can’t wait to put everything everyone has been saying to bed.’
