Tom Cruise had some strong words of advice for Emily Blunt.
The actors worked together in 2014 on sci-fi movie Edge of Tomorrow, with Emily playing warrior Rita Vrataski who is on a mission to same the Earth from aliens with the help of Major William Cage, played by Tom.
As you can imagine, like with any Tom Cruise film, it was no small feat and there were plenty of action-filled scenes testing the cast’s abilities.
So much so, in fact, British star Emily, 39, was left in tears, with Tom, 60, on hand to offer some harsh encouragement.
She admits that Tom ‘didn’t know what to do’ when she broke down after injuring her ribs wearing her heavy robotic costume.
According to The Times, the actress explained to the Smartless podcast: ‘We had to wear these enormous suits, which I think would’ve been great if we had CGI’d them but we wanted to do it in a tactile way.

‘When you hear the word tactile you think that sounds nice and cosy; there was nothing cosy about these suits. It was like 85lb, it was so heavy. The first time I put it on I started to cry and [Tom] didn’t know what to do.’
Emily continued: ‘He just stared at me and was like, “I know, I know”, I was like, “Tom, I’m not sure how I’m going to get through this shoot”, and just started to cry. I said, “I’m feeling a bit panicky about the whole shoot”.’
On how the Mission: Impossible star went down the tough love avenue, she added: ‘He just stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and he goes, “Come on, stop being such a p***y, ok?”.’
Well, it appears to have worked, because Emily was able to laugh before carrying on shooting.

However, filming in the heavy costumes continued to be be a battle, and she claims they even needed male stunt doubles, rather than female ones, because of the weight.
A Quiet Place star Emily also says she hurt her collarbone while filming and her ribs are ‘still dodgy’ eight years later.
The movie was a massive hit, though, as it grossed over $370million (£302m) following a $178million (£145) budget.

Last month, Emily spoke about how her husband, John Krasinski, has been by her side throughout her career, with some perhaps less harsh words of encouragement than what Tom had.
While speaking to Metro.co.uk and other media during press for The English, The Devil Wears Prada star was asked whether it was a natural career progression for her to start doing more work behind-the-scenes, given she was an executive producer on the mini-series.

The Golden Globe winner outlined how she’s ‘always very involved in every aspect of whatever I do, whether there’s a title above that work that I contribute with or not’.
‘In many ways, I’ve never asked for a producing title. Even though I feel often my absorption in the whole process would have been… I mean, my husband’s been saying for years, I should probably ask for one and I was like, “No I shouldn’t”,’ she explained.
Reps for Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise have been contacted for comment.
