Monday’s front pages are heavily dominated by Covid and potential restrictions that could be brought in – whilst the guardian and online leads with an exclusive picture of Boris Johnson and No 10 staff drinking wine at a garden event during the first lockdown. Most of the papers splash an image of Emma Raducanu after she is named Sports Personality of the Year 2021.
The Sun says limits on indoor mixing and restrictions on venues such as pubs are still looming as the government considers how to slow the spread of Omicron.
The Daily Express picks up the health secretary’s warning that there are “no guarantees in this pandemic” and that “everything is under review” when asked about the chances of new COVID rules.
The Daily Mirror says it’s “D-Day for Christmas” with the prime minister having urgent meetings on Monday with scientists and his senior team.
Boris Johnson is pictured in the Downing Street garden with a number of staff last year. The Guardian says it was taken when mixing between households was limited to two people outdoors, and when guidance said in-person work meetings should only take place if “absolutely necessary”.
