Today’s news summary – Paper Talk
Tuesday’s front pages report on the confirmation that the body recovered from the River Wyre is that of missing walker Nicola Bllley. Many of the tabloids lead with Nicola as their lead story, whilst the broadsheets lead heavily on Joe Biden’s surprise visit to Kyiv where he met with Ukraine’s president and promised weapons.
Elsewhere: the papers report the prime minister is under pressure from Liz Truss and Boris Johnson to send fighter jets to Ukraine. Junior doctors vote to walk out on hospitals for 72 hours and an inquest finds ‘catastrophic failures’ in gun laws led to the 2021 Plymouth shootings.
Biden and Zelenksy on the streets of Kyiv
The Guardian’s Luke Harding, who’s in Kyiv, describes Joe Biden’s visit as the most consequential made by a US president to a European country since the end of the Cold War. The Daily Mail calls the trip a daring act of defiance, the Times says it was symbolic proof of Russia’s failure.
US National Security Advisor John Bolton writes in the Daily Telegraph that Nato leaders have little reason to pat themselves on the back. He says the West lacks a strategy for victory and Nato should provide more aid to Ukraine, instead of fearing that Putin could expand the war.
The Financial Times highlights the Dutch military intelligence – who warned Russia might attempt to sabotage its offshore wind farms in the North Sea.

The Sun, the Daily Express and the Daily Mail quote Nicola’s family statement, saying she can “rest now.” The Daily Mirror’s headline picks u pon another sentence from the family’s statement – describing Nikki as the “centre of our world.” The paper says the case has fascinated the public but has only left heartbreak and hostility.
