Thursday’s front pages focus on the news Germany and the US will be sending their tanks to Ukraine.
The Daily Mail’s headline says “Finally, the West united to defend freedom.” The paper describes the move as a “devastating blow to the Kremlin” – stating in its leader that “at long, long last western leaders seem to have got the message.”
The Mirror describes it as a “World united against evil.” The paper’s opinion column argues that “this is no provocation, as Vladimir Putin would like to claim – but a reaffirmation that Russia’s brutal and illegal invasion must not succeed”.
Whilst the i newspaper speaks to the former Royal Navy chief Lord West who says the West has “called Putin’s bluff” after the US joined Germany and the UK in sending tanks to help Ukraine.
The Financial Times reports aerospace company Lockheed Martin is prepared to meet the demand for its F-16 aircraft as Ukraine’s European allies to debate sending fighter jets to Kyiv. The paper says the US government must approve sales or transfers to third countries of US-made fighter jets, meaning European countries would need support from the Biden administration.
The Guardian says Dominic Raab is facing a wider bullying investigation than originally anticipated. The paper understands that at least 24 civil servants are involved in formal complaints against him.
