Thursday’s front pages are dominated by the “ruthless” government cabinet reshuffle. A few surprise demotions and replacements have led to some paper’s speculating PM Boris Johnson is laying the grounds for the next general election.
‘PM reshuffles Cabinet’
The Daily Express describes it as Boris Johnson’s “biggest shake-up yet”, calling it a “ruthless cull”. The Sun calls it “a brutal display of authority by a prime minister at the height of his powers”.
The Daily Telegraph says the PM’s decision to demote Dominic Raab, promote Liz Truss and move Michael Gove “out of the centre of power” was part of a reshuffle “that was more extensive than expected”.
The reshuffle has been “broadly welcomed” by Conservative MPs, according to the Financial Times, which says they hope the appointments will lead to “less chaos in Whitehall”.

“Clowning Street massacre” is the take in the Daily Star, which has mocked up pictures of Mr Williamson and Mr Johnson as clowns.
